Shanghai in the fog: tradition meets modernity

by artefacti

The image presents an atmospheric depiction of Shanghai, where historic pagodas and modern skyscrapers coexist and are reflected in the river. The Oriental Pearl Tower stands at the centre of the skyline and is flanked by the Shanghai World Financial Center and other skyscrapers, symbolising the rapid development of the city. In the foreground are traditional Chinese buildings whose architecture is deeply rooted in China's history and culture. The colour palette is muted, dominated by shades of grey and brown with accents of blue, giving the whole a misty and dreamlike effect. The painterly reflections in the water create a dual reality, reflecting Shanghai's duality between past and future. The watercolour-like splashes and splotches of colour throughout the painting add dynamism and convey the feeling of a city that is constantly moving and changing. This depiction is not only a tribute to the architectural beauty of Shanghai, but also a reflection of the cultural richness that remains alive in the modern metropolis.
