One of my favourite things on holiday is looking down streets. Everywhere I walk I look around corners to see if there is something beautiful or unexpected to see. Maybe even something that makes me pause to look. Or, even better, become curious about what I see and can't suppress the urge to turn away. And, of course, it could also be that I stay still to take a photo of a newly discovered view.
The latter happened when I looked around a corner in Ermoupoli on Syros and saw a view that to me is truly Greek. A beautiful deep blue sea, a blue sky above it between two buildings. With a lovely terrace to the right. And I know immediately, were it my terrace I would sit there every day after work enjoying the view. Just until the waves were too dark to see and the stars were in the sky.
But back to now. A day with beautiful warm, sunny weather. And a blue sea turning greenish towards the shore, with clear water inviting a dip. An unexpected vantage point which for me represents holiday, summer and freedom.
