In North Holland, you will find the Westerheide. A beautiful nature reserve, where Scottish Highlanders give nature a helping hand by grazing the heathland. I think these Highlanders are beautiful animals and even if you have to keep your distance, with their warm fur I would love to cuddle them. Besides being sweet, they are also very photogenic. On a cold foggy morning in December, I got up early to photograph this small herd. During the night, they seek shelter among the trees, but as soon as the sun rises, they head out. They then walk with the herd into the landscape, looking for food. In this beautiful clearing on Westerheide, as the sun rose, I came across them. The sunrise provided beautiful light. It's not called the golden hour for nothing. The mist, the frozen heather plants, the sunlight, the two animals and the tree in the middle make the photo perfect for me! This photo is part of a series of 4 photos, all taken on this magical morning. Colours; brown, beige, yellow and earth tones.
