Scilla is a species of about 50 to 80 lamp-forming perennial herbs in the family Asparagaceae, subfamily scilloideae, native to forests, subalpine meadows, and coasts throughout Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Some species have also naturalized in Australia, New Zealand and North America. Their flowers are usually blue, but white, pink and purple species are known; most bloom in early spring, but a few bloom in autumn. Several Scilla species are appreciated as ornamental garden plants.
