Photograph of Schwerin's Pfaffenteich lake. One of Schwerin's nine lakes lies in the centre of the city and is bordered by wide promenades. It covers around 12 hectares of the city and is 2.80 metres deep. Seven potential World Heritage ensembles stand on its shores and bear witness to the self-confident, lively history of the Grand Ducal residence city. These include the grand ducal ensemble of the Arsenal (in ochre-orange), St Paul's Church with its stately home, Demmler's residence and the Fridericianum grammar school.
