Scholar in His Study, Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn (1634)

The painting bears the year 1634 in the left lower corner and it is signed with Rembrandt’s name. This was a happy year in the painter’s private life, and a successful one of his career. At the age of twenty-eight he married Saskia van Uylenburgh and started a career of a sought-after painter – at the time of portraits in particular. This one depicts the graceful face of an old scholar, who is captured in the moment of interruption of his reading. His learning is referred to in the objects on the desk, such as a globe, books, folios, and a plume and inkpot. The luxurious clothes and the gold chain over his shoulders suggest this is a well-to-do man. His identity is not known – however, Rembrandt used the same model in two more paintings, in which the man is depicted in an Oriental costume and a turban.

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

Is your order a gift for someone? We can create you a gift voucher that displays the artwork(s) you ordered, so you have something to give while the artwork is being printed. Just send us an e-mail and we’ll take care of it.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
