The Crowned Poelenburg
This sawmill is known as the paltrok type of mill, of which there were once two hundred in the Zaan region. Palm mills have an open work floor on three sides and often a dark, tarred, mill body. When turning on the wind, the whole mill is rotated over a so-called "rolling ring". That's why the paltrok is also called a subcutaneer. This is in contrast to the upper-crossing mills, where only the upper cap including the wings rotates.
The Crowned Poelenburg was built in 1869 in Koog aan de Zaan. The mill replaced a similar one, which had to disappear before the construction of the Amsterdam-Alkmaar railway line. In 1904 the mill had to make way again. Then he was moved to a place on De Gouw, a water in Zaandam-Oost. Finally, in 1963, it was again demolished and rebuilt on the Zaanse Schans.
