The city of San Francisco stretches along the northern tip of the San Francisco Peninsula in California. The peninsula separates the San Francisco Bay from the Pacific Ocean. Thanks to the natural harbour protected by the sea in the bay, the metropolis developed into one of the most important port cities in the USA. The Golden City is also known for its uneven landscape with more than 40 hills within the city limits. At the intersection of Haight Street and Ashbury Street, near Golden Gate Park, lies the eponymous Haight Ashbury neighbourhood. At the end of the 1960s, the neighbourhood was at the forefront of the flower power hippie movement.
