Salt marshes are overgrown pieces of land that border directly on the sea, without a row of dunes or dikes. They are usually situated along shallow tidal areas such as the Wadden Sea. In the event of a storm or extra high water, a kwelders is flooded. Salt marshes are also found in the delta region.
