The Newfoundlanders are the fishermen who from the sixteenth century to the twentieth century departed every year from the coasts of Europe to fish for cod on the Grand Banks of Newfoundland, off the coast of Canada. These fishermen were mainly French, but also Basque, Spanish, Portuguese and English. This fishery ended because of the scarcity of fish at the end of the twentieth century due to overfishing.

The old city wall is still there. The district within the wall is called Intra-Muros. At the large entrance gate is the castle.
In the harbour there are sailing ships, all fishing boats that normally fish for fish on the ocean. Also some men row in their rowing boats through the water between the big ships.
