About ‘Sacred ruins of Lankatilaka’ by Frank Photos

In Polonnaruwa, in the heart of Sri Lanka's ancient capital, stands the majestic Lankatilaka temple. Built in the XIIIᵉ century, this Buddhist sanctuary impresses with its imposing proportions, with walls 17 metres high. At its centre, a massive statue of Buddha, sadly headless, seems to contemplate centuries gone by. The contrast between the grandeur of the Buddha and the ruins of the temple creates a solemn atmosphere that leaves you speechless. The finely carved stone decoration bears witness to the Sinhalese architecture of the period. The site attracts pilgrims and visitors fascinated by the timeless beauty of this former royal city, where echoes of past glory still resonate.
