About ‘Rugged cliffs at Cabo de São Vicente – understated black and white’ by Melissa Peltenburg

On the edge of Portugal, near Cabo de São Vicente, rugged cliffs rise steeply from the Atlantic Ocean. This landscape, shaped by wind and water, exudes both power and tranquillity. In the distance, the layered coastline slowly fades into the light, whilst in the foreground the dark sea crashes against the rocks.

This photograph has been deliberately captured in a low-key style, with an emphasis on dark tones and contrast. The underexposed atmosphere and the use of black and white create a powerful and dramatic image in which texture and form take centre stage. The deep shadows in the water and the subtle play of light on the cliffs create an almost tangible sense of depth.

The result is a timeless and minimalist image that not only showcases the ruggedness of nature, but also exudes tranquillity and depth. Perfect for lovers of landscape photography, seascapes and fine art prints with a powerful presence.
