A Lockheed Martin F-35 B Lightning II from the Royal Navy, the replacement for the Hawker Siddeley Harrier.
The Lockheed Martin F-35B is the STOVL(Short Take Off Vertical Landing) variant for the U.S. Marine Corps and Royal Navy among others that will replace several versions of the Hawker Siddeley Harrier.
The photo shows that a number of flaps in the fuselage have been opened so that the aircraft can transition from flying forward to hovering still in the air like a helicopter can.
