In this work, I bring together Rotterdam's best-known icons into one colourful skyline. It is not a literal representation of the city, but an ode to the Maasstad as I see it: lively, powerful and always in motion. By combining buildings such as De Erasmusbrug, De Hef, the Markthal, the Euromast, Montevideo, Hotel New York and the KPN building in one image, a composite skyline is created that feels like home to everyone who cares about Rotterdam.
I like to work with strong colours, paint textures and mixed techniques to not only show a city, but also make it feel like home. The skyline is therefore not built realistically, but constructed as a memory: a collection of places that linger, touch or inspire you. The warm glow, soft painting textures and almost dreamy light create a positive and inviting atmosphere.
For me, this work is a celebration of Rotterdam as a city of strength, culture and perseverance. A place where modernity and history continue to meet. The Maasstad in full colour - just as it deserves.
