The Rootorenbrug was placed at the end of Luttik Oudorp in 1619. On the bridge map from 1780 this bridge was called "dRoemer of Rootorens Brugh". In 1872 the wooden bridge was replaced by an iron one. The name was not a subject of discussion in the 1920s (20th century). The name of the Rootorenbrug, Alkmaar, is a reference to the Red Tower, which stood on the corner of the Bierkade and the Wageweg. The tower was converted into a mill in 1560.
