I took this photo on an early morning, early May 2025, in the hilly heart of southern Limburg. The white building to the right of centre is Eys-Wittem station, a small but characteristic station building along the Miljoenenlijn, where the occasional historic steam train still rumbles past. What makes this scene so special is the subtle blanket of morning mist that lies like a breath over the landscape. The soft light, the blue glow over the fields and the quiet village outskirts combine to create a moment of pure stillness.
My inspiration for this work was exactly that: to capture the stillness before the day begins. Everything is still possible. The world is not yet awake, and in that stillness lies promise.
Technically, this work is composed of three separate photographs, merged into one panoramic whole. This gives space to the landscape and allows the viewer to almost physically feel the rhythm of the undulations.
To me, this work feels cool and calm, almost meditative. It exudes calm, but also a certain expectation. In an interior, this picture brings balance and a touch of nostalgia. It is an image that suits people who love the outdoors, the atmosphere of the South Limburg countryside, or simply the charm of a slowly awakening world.
