This photograph captures a serene moment on the coast of Mauritius. The composition is dominated by massive, dark basalt rocks rising steadfastly from the ocean. The photo was taken with a slow shutter speed which turns the turbulent surf into a velvety mist. This creates a sleek, minimalist contrast between the solid and the fluid. The steadiness of the rocks amid the constant change of the Indian Ocean. The rocks in the foreground shine through the evening light, beautifully highlighting their texture and roughness.
This work was created using a long shutter speed. Amid the rocks and rippling surf, the camera was placed on a rock with a small tripod and left open with a 20-second camera shutter.
