This picture shows an impressive wooden door that is clearly part of an old castle or fortress. The door exudes a sense of strength, protection and history. The dark wood is heavy, weathered and dotted with metal nails that add strength. The iron X-shaped reinforcements emphasise its sturdiness and give it an almost defensive character. On the right, under the small bars, a small hatch is visible-possibly once used to check who was at the door without opening it.
Above the door is a beautifully chiselled stone decoration consisting of two coats of arms and crossed arms. These elements strongly allude to noble families or military history and might well have represented the original inhabitants. The framing masonry is made of warm, pinkish-red natural stone, giving the door a charming and almost fairy-tale appearance.
The small window above the door, with its diamond pattern of traditional stained glass, enhances the medieval atmosphere of the whole. The slight reflections in the glass and the soft texture of the stonework ensure that this door is not only an entrance, but also tells a visual story. A story of ancient power, protection and the lives that took place behind this massive gate.
