The robin is a familiar forest bird that you also see a lot in gardens. The birds migrate to warmer weather in the winter. Many of the Redbreasts that are in the Netherlands in the summer go south, and Redbreasts from Scandinavia, Germany and Poland come to the Netherlands in the winter.
The Red Breasts eat insects and berries and seeds. The nest is made close to the ground, in a hollow in a tree or between dense vegetation. Redbreasts defend their territory fiercely, using the red chest to impress each other.
Both the male and the female have a bright red breast. By begging behavior the female suppresses the aggression of the male. Together they raise the boy. After the breeding season the partnership will be broken again.
