Katwoude is a village in the municipality of Waterland in the province of North Holland. Before 1991 Katwoude was an independent municipality. In terms of population, it was the smallest municipality in the Netherlands with 236 inhabitants (1990), with its own town council, with the council chamber in the school building where the association building and the fire station were also located. The mayor and official services were shared with the neighbouring town of Monnickendam.
