Rutting season
Just before the rutting season, which takes place every year in September, the males leave their pack and go out on their own. They start behaving differently, this is due to changing hormones. The testosterone coursing through their bodies also makes them change in appearance. They become more muscular and longer hair forms around the neck.
Deer living (alone) in the rut seek out females. They try to impress the hinds with a kind of roar: belling. Sometimes two deer fight and then it is hard against hard.
