The Netherlands is famous for its cultivated tulips and is one of the main exporting countries of tulips and tulip bulbs. Traditionally, springtime sees an exhibition of millions of tulips at Keukenhof in Lisse, which is especially well visited by tourists. In addition, buses full of tourists come to look at the tulip fields. Best known are the more traditional fields along the dunes of South Holland and the West Frisian polders. However, most of the tulips can be found in Flevoland, especially in the Noordoostpolder (over 2,000 hectares). Tulip fields can also be found in the Northern Sand area of North Holland (around Breezand, Anna Paulowna and Julianadorp) and on the island of Goeree-Overflakkee. The North Holland town of Limmen is home to the Hortus Bulborum, the world's largest gene bank for bulbous plants. This garden houses over 3,500 different varieties of tulips, daffodils, hyacinths, and other mostly historic spring bulbous plants.
