The Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, Clark County, Nevada, is an area managed by the Bureau of Land Management as part of the National Landscape Conservation System and as a National Conservation Area. It is located about 25 kilometers west of Las Vegas and is easily accessible from the Las Vegas Strip. More than two million people visit the area every year. [2]
The protected area shows a series of large red rock formations: a series of sandstone peaks and walls called the Keystone Thrust. The walls are up to 3,000 feet (910 m) high, making them a popular walking and rock climbing destination. The highest point is Mount La Madre, at 2,485 m (8,154 ft).
A one-way street, 21 km long, provides access to many of the functions in the area. Several side roads and parking spaces provide access to many of the trails in the area. A visitor centre is located at the beginning of the loop. The bypass is so popular for bike rides; it starts with a moderate climb and is usually downhill or flat.
