On the day of this photo I was on the island of Skokholm on the west coast of Wales where there was a strong (I may say very strong) wind. The various birds, including this Razorbill, were struggling to land safely. This gave me the chance to capture them beautifully.
Razorbills are seabirds found only in the North Atlantic region. They have a fast flight. In the process, the birds can fly low over the water and manoeuvre between waves. This makes observation with binoculars difficult from the Dutch coast, where it can only be seen as a winter visitor. A visit to its breeding grounds such as Iceland or England in late spring offers a better opportunity to get a good look at razorbills.
Ik ben een hard werkende fotograaf die altijd opzoek is naar een balans tussen technische perfectie en sfeer.
