TILOTTAMA: Tilottama is a heavenly virgin (apsara) born from Kashyapa-Prajapati and his wife Pradha.
In this print by the Ravi Varma Press, derived from a painting by Raja Ravi Varma, Tilottama is depicted as a short-lived girl playing with a ball on the clouds.
The woman on this lithograph is standing almost naked while hitting the ball like a forerunner of tennis. The model stands topless and in a bright red dress. Because of this the girls' hip, belly and torso with breasts are exposed. Outside the red the lithograph contains soft blue and yellow.
All in all a sexy and sensual erotic picture with romance.
Raja Ravi Varma (India 29 April 1848-2 October 1906) was a celebrated Indian painter and artist. He is considered one of the greatest painters in the history of Indian art. His works are one of the best examples of the fusion of European academic art with a purely Indian sensitivity and iconography.
