Queensland is a state in the northeast of Australia. Queensland is Australia's second largest state in terms of surface area and third largest in terms of population. The state is named after Queen Victoria, the monarch at the time of the establishment of the former colony. The capital and largest city of Queensland is Brisbane, located in the southeastern part of the state. The northern part of the state, separated by the Tropic of Capricorn, is tropical. The south is subtropical.
