On the ferry in Denmark. Not much to do. Looking around the sea, having a drink, chatting a bit. That's about it.
So plenty of time to go out with my camera and explore the boat. On the deck between two seating areas of the boat, my blink strikes several things worth photographing. A lifebelt, the pattern in the rubber mats on the floor and this.
A white vessel with a red hand wheel, in front of a blue wall. A composition that never left me. You can see that the handwheel is used, the paint is partly gone. The screw thread is partly lighter, maybe it usually disappears into the neck of the barrel at that spot? A wing nut, which shines so nicely that it can hardly be as old as the handwheel. Has it been replaced or what there used to be none?
The composition makes me curious. I have no idea what is in the barrel, nor do I know the answer to any of my questions. And that makes it intriguing.
Besides the colours, composition and questions, the barrel with handwheel also speaks to me in another way. It is a metaphor for having influence, getting or putting more and less pressure. A symbol for a silent force that does what it needs to do, if only you steer at the right time.
