The end of summer on Vlieland. The tourists are slowly starting to move away. Sure, there are still plenty but they no longer walk everywhere in your view. And as I cycle around the island, the heather catches my eye.
Well that heather grows in more places on the island. And while I'm there, the heather everywhere is full of convincing purple, with some pink hues here and there. But this heather seems different and that's because of the spot.
The heather forms a path. A path with an unknown destination, somewhere behind the conifers. And I find myself dreaming about gnomes and fairies who live along the path and who do know where it leads. In my mind, the purple tussocks of heather form a nocturnal fairy tale route to a beautiful place. A secret land full of special inhabitants. Do you see them?
The reality is that this heath is right next to a restaurant. That nothing lives under the moors and rarely does anyone follow the moor path. Yet, my thoughts are my own and I don't see a restaurant but fairies dancing through the purple.
How wonderful fantasy is.
