The highlight of our holiday to the Faroe Islands was visiting the island of Mykines. How incredibly beautiful it is here. The island is green, rugged and untouched, and during a hike you can enjoy all the spectacular views and of course the many different species of birds, including the puffin.
Fortunately, the island has been declared a protected area for several years and the puffins have been able to breed here in peace and quiet ever since. And with success, because you will see them in abundance during your walk on Mykines. Sitting on top of rocks, in a hole in the grass or bobbing on the water, they willingly pose for the camera.
As this is a protected area, there are some rules you have to follow. In any case, you must stay on the footpaths and you are also not allowed to stop or stand still in the area where the puffins are. Fortunately, they come pretty close themselves and sit fairly still so you can take some pretty nice photos in passing.
