The Princess Irene locks in the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal are the northwestern locks at the junction of the canal with the river Lek, just outside Wijk bij Duurstede. They were built in 1952 and 1974 respectively, and are owned by the Department of Public Works. Some 24,000 ships pass through these locks annually. The locks are classified as CEMT class VIb, and the two chambers have different dimensions. The eastern chamber, built in 1974, is 260.00 m long and 24.00 m wide.
