When we arrive in Melbourne in the morning on our boat from Tasmania, the city at the waterfront is still deserted. We find a place to sit for a while and look out over Princes Pier in the morning light, Melbourne's historic pier of which only the poles are still standing. It's a special view with extra perspective because of the lines of wooden poles. In the background large sea-going vessels set sail for their journey across the ocean, striking with their red bows.
