Located in Bhuj, in the state of Gujarat, Prag Mahal is an impressive palace combining European Gothic influences and Indian architecture. Built in the 19th century on the orders of Maharaja Pragmalji II, it boasts an imposing sandstone façade, sculpted arches and an immense reception hall adorned with Venetian chandeliers. Its 45-metre bell tower dominates the city, offering a panoramic view of Bhuj and the surrounding area.
Although partially damaged by the 2001 earthquake, the palace retains its majestic charm, with its huge Corinthian columns and colourful windows. Adjacent to the palace, the former royal residence, Aina Mahal, completes the visit, revealing a luxurious décor inspired by Persian and European influences. A crossroads of cultures and styles, Prag Mahal remains a fascinating testament to Gujarat's rich heritage.
