This work is an en face portrait of an African Wild Dog (Lycaon pictus) also called Painted Dog. The wild dog has a cheerful expression, its ears are perked and its mouth is partially open in a relaxed manner. The fur around its neck is wet with stains of blood and slightly felted, suggesting that it has been hunting recently. The blurred background emphasises the animal's striking features and concentrated gaze. I photographed this scene in Chobe National Park, Botswana. The dog was part of a pack resting in the bushes.
