A bee pauses for a moment on a beautiful red flower, in the butterfly garden of the Máximapark in Vleuten. This garden is a busy hub for everything that buzzes and flies and consists of a profusion of colors and scents. The garden was designed by Piet Oudolf and is managed by Vleuten residents.
For this macro photo I sat down in the grass and observed all the insects that passed by. Besides a winged photographic model, I was looking for interesting colors in the foreground and background. These fade so beautifully when only a small area of the photo is in focus - a short depth of field. This gives a soft and colorful look to the photo and also ensures that only the subject is in focus.
The result? A colorful and natural image that brightens up any space and also inspires you to enjoy or rest yourself for a while like this bee on the flower.
