France is home to the largest Cistercian church in the world. It is a monastic order born out of dissatisfaction with the existing monasteries, which were too removed from the faith. The monks started building in the year 1138 using limestone from the region.
It is an imposing building, and is quite austere and sombrely built and decorated.
Truus Nijland is a passionate photographer who has a penchant for abandoned buildings such as castles, monasteries, churches and industrial locations.
