The polecat (Mustela putorius) belongs to the family of mustelids. Together with the other mustelids: badger, otter, weasel, ermine, mink and the pine and stone marten, this family forms the largest group of land predators in the Netherlands. The polecat has a head-hull length of 33-45 cm, a dark brown fur with a yellow, yellow-white or light brown undercoat. Confusion with other mustelids may occur.
