In November 1973, the United States Navy DC-3 made an emergency landing on the black beach of Sólheimasandur near the town of Vík, in southern Iceland. What was going on has not been clarified, though all occupants survived the crash. The plane wreckage was never removed The photo was taken in January, during winter in Iceland, so the beach is white with snow. In the background you can see the water of the sea.
