Yes what can I tell you about tulips?
They are gorgeous, beautiful colours, suitable for any occasion, nice to get, beautiful to look at, sweet to give.
Growing new bulbs is done by planting tulip bulbs in autumn (October and November). The buds between the bulb skirts of these bulbs grow into new bulbs using the old bulb as food. The bud next to the growing point, the so-called a-bud, grows into a large bulb that can be sold for flower production or directly to consumers
The flowering period runs from April into June. A special type of cultivated tulips are the 'botanical tulips' (also called wild tulips), tulips with a short stem that also come out the years after the planting year.
The Netherlands is famous for its cultivated tulips and is one of the main export countries of tulips and tulip bulbs. Traditionally, an exhibition of millions of tulips is made at the Keukenhof in Lisse in spring, which is mostly visited by tourists. In addition, many tourists come to look at the tulip fields.
