About the artwork
Pilot tender walks into Flushing harbour. Pilot tender flags bow wave stern waves in the Westerschelde. The skipper at the helm just visible behind the window. Sunglasses on because of the reflections of deer water.
The pilot tender always picking up or taking away the pilot at high speed. The big sea vessels are always in a hurry to reach the open sea or the port of Antwerp. The pilots bring the ships safely across the Westerschelde in all weathers. And the seagoing ships don't wait they keep on going, raw and the port as it is the people who work there. I like to photograph the images I see there because it is art in itself. The harbour is another world. The landscape of the port is always changing.
