The Fortress of Nieuwpoort is one of the smallest and one of the oldest towns in the Netherlands, with city rights dating back to 1283. The picture shows the beautiful town hall built at the end of the 17th century. A canal runs under the town hall; this canal used to flood the land when there was a threat of enemy troops. Fun fact is that Nieuwpoort's town hall can also be found as a miniature in Madurodam.
