Before I went to Canada I knew these pictures of course, beautiful blue and green water among the mountains and forests of Canada. But when I was actually there I only realised 'it's really that blue, not photoshop'.
Peyto Lake is also called the dog's head, and with a little imagination you can see why. But the best thing about this lake is of course the blue-green colour, the water is not clear which gives it a milky effect. Why the water looks like this is because it is meltwater from the mountains. The grit from the rock walls that comes with the water, combined with light from the sun, gives the lakes their beautiful blue colour.
Peyto Lake, located in Banff National Park in Alberta, Canada, is an iconic glacial lake known for its striking bright blue colour, caused by glacial grit in the meltwater. Surrounded by high peaks and dense pine forests, the lake offers breathtaking views from Bow Summit, the highest point along the scenic Icefields Parkway. The short, well-maintained hiking trail to the viewpoint makes it accessible to all visitors. Although swimming in the cold water is not common, visitors can enjoy hiking, photography and nature observation. Each season offers a unique experience, from the bright blue water in summer to the serene, snowy surroundings in winter. Peyto Lake is an enchanting destination in the Canadian Rockies, ideal for nature lovers and photographers.
