The famous Romanian church figure Iustin (Justin) Pârvu had the Petru Vodă Monastery built as a monument to the people who ended up in communist prisons. The monument was erected in 1991 after Pârvu himself was freed from the prison in which he had spent 17 years. Iustin Pârvu died in 2013 and is now buried near the church.
The monastery's beautiful location makes it one of the highlights of the Neamţ area.
