Peonies in a bowl of water where they go through their final flowering phase for almost a week. The petals detach, the flower disintegrates and the colours shift from white and pink to pastels and head colours. In one flower, the petals are still folded shut, while the other has let them go, showing off the stamens and pistil as the last recognition to the world. But the curling of the petals, the edges discolouring and the beauty of decay also come together in this unique photograph.
The process of realising the photograph means watching daily to see what happens, is it right for a photograph? Wait too long and the moment is over, too early and you miss the variety. In short, a lot of photos were taken to arrive at a series that can be called special and unique.
The inspiration for the work lies, among other things, in old-fashioned wallpaper in which beautiful blooming flowers were given a place. But also old paintings in which decay was made visible.
Specialized in landscapes and nature, especially in the Netherlands. The Veluwe forests and the waterfront are common subjects, sometimes with the contrast of nature and human traces.
