Pasture landscape in the Oderbruch at Easter time by Silva Wischeropp

This magical natural landscape was captured on 20 March 2019 in the late afternoon with a NIKON D90 camera (lens: SIGMA 18.0-70.0 mm f/3.5-4.5).

The landscape of the Oderbruch (Lower Oderbruch) is criss-crossed by drainage ditches and canals, on the banks of which willows (especially pollarded willows) are a typical feature of the vegetation. Willow has a long tradition in the Oderbruch, which is also reflected in the nearby basket-making museum, which documents the processing of willow rods.

Particularly striking are the often pruned pollarded willows, which used to serve as a source of raw material for basket weaving and today provide important refuges for insects and birds.

The pasture landscape in the Lower Oderbruch near Niederfinow is a valuable part of Brandenburg's cultural landscape, characterised by wet meadows, polders and a distinctive Oder floodplain. It is located in the district of Barnim near the famous Niederfinow boat lift.

Characteristics and significance
Niederoderbruch: The area between Freienwalder Landgraben and Lieper Schleuse is a meadow landscape criss-crossed by waterways, which is often used extensively as pasture land.
Natural and cultural landscape: It is an FFH area (Fauna-Flora-Habitat), which is of great importance for nature conservation.
Rewetting: In certain areas of the Lower Oderbruch, efforts are being made to rewet the land in order to protect and reactivate former moors.
Cultural landscape: Historically, the Oderbruch has been characterised by drainage and conversion into a cultural landscape, with some areas remaining as pastureland.
