Panorama of the landscape at Segesta, with Greek temple. Sicily.
The temple of Segesta is a never finished Greek sanctuary in Doric style. It was built around 430-420 BC by the Elymians on a hill just outside the old town of Segesta and offers a view of the surroundings.
It is a peripertal Doric temple with 6 by 14 columns on a base measuring 21×56m and three steps high. The structure of the temple is complete with the entablature and the tympanum, although the temple was clearly never finished. The columns have no fluting (the vertical grooves of the columns), the handles used to lift the blocks can still be seen at the base and there is no trace of a cella or a roof. The Temple of Segesta is in style and size a standard product for the 5th century BC, but its unfinished condition and its remarkable, almost perfect condition makes it one of the most important remaining Greek temples in the world.
I like to take pictures of nature and landscapes. Travelling is my passion. I also like to occasionally apply in photoshop effects, or create new designs, thus creating digital art. Also art and culture in other countries have my interest. I created many albums in my shop: panoramas,.. Read more…
