The water between Stralsund and Rügen is called the Strelasund. Over the Strelasund in Stralsund there is a bridge to Rügen.

A large number of historical buildings in brick gothic style bear witness to the Hanzetijd, including the town hall and three large churches: the Marienkirche or Mary's Church, the Nicholas Church and the Jacob's Church.

The new, white, modern building between the historic buildings is striking. That's the Ozeaneum. The Ozeaneum is an aquarium belonging to the Deutsches Meeresmuseum. The aquarium shows mainly animals that live in the North Sea and the Baltic Sea.
