Pallas Athena is one of the main goddesses of the Greek pantheon. She had various functions: she was patron goddess of craftsmen and artists, and she was goddess of battle. She was also goddess of wisdom and protector of several Greek cities, especially Athens.
The woman is traditionally depicted with an armor and here also with a helmet. Underneath it the long-haired blond girl looks dangerous.
On the Acropolis she had two temples, called the Erechtheion, and the Parthenon. Of both, considerable remains have been preserved to our time. In the Erechtheion the oldest wooden statue of Athena, which was called to have fallen from the sky, and the memorials of her battle with Poseidon for possession of the landscape Attica, have been preserved. The Parthenon, as its name indicated, was the temple of the "virgin goddess".
