The Palendorp is a monument symbolizing an ancient village that disappeared entirely into the sea from 1792. This beautiful work of art consists of 160 poles from six to twelve meters high. The poles are in the shape of 10 houses and a church.
The current village of Petten is the fourth village on (approximately) the same spot, after two previous villages disappeared into the sea and a third was demolished by the Germans during the Second World War.
