Painting with feathers in black and white on rainbow pastel

by Lisette Rijkers

This painting is a nice combination between the hard contrasting black and white of the feathers and the softness of the rainbow pastel shades in the background.
The softly coloured background in rainbow colours is a watercolour. Watercolours in rainbow colours have been used to create a beautiful gradient in pastels.
On top of this, three feathers are painted in black, grey and white. Acrylic paint was used for this.
A bird's feathers are fascinating. A bird can fly with them, it is kept warm and dry by the feathers and because of the different colours and patterns, the feathers are also important for the bird's appearance. And it is only when you take a closer look at a feather that you see how ingenious it is. It is a miracle of nature!
This painting is a tribute to birds. And in particular the fact that a bird can fly using its wings and the feathers attached to them. Flying in the sky like a bird is associated with freedom. Indeed, humans are always trying to emulate such a way of flying using various techniques.
To reinforce the feeling of freedom, the colours of the rainbow were deliberately used as the background. This is because the rainbow colours symbolise freedom. The freedom to be who you want to be.
With this painting in colour and black and white, you bring a special work of art into your home. A work of art that symbolises freedom!
