Henri Julien Félix Rousseau (Laval, France, May 21, 1844 - Paris, September 2, 1910) was a French painter. He bore the nickname "Le Douanier", because he worked in customs. His work went unnoticed for a long time, but once discovered it was applauded for its artistic quality. The artist's work was appreciated for its innocent naive and primitive qualities. The artist's art was considered to belong to the avant-garde and post-impressionism.
